- 1988 completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Victorian College of the Arts
- 1991 lived and worked in Italy as the recipient of the Verdaccio Studio awarded by the Visual Arts and Craft Board of the Australia Council.
- Since 1998 Julia has lectured in painting and drawing at the Western Institute of Technology and Monash University. She currently lives and works in Melbourne.
